Huawei Nova 3i Review

Huawei has been setting new standards when it comes to release bang for the bucks devices lately.  As you all know that the mainstream smartphone market has been getting over crowded, manufactures have been releasing affordable and feature rich mobile phones to keep themselves in the game. With the launch of new Huawei Nova 3i Smartphone at AVRY Singapore last week, Huawei tries to make it a compelling choice for consumers to buy this feature rich smartphone for a price of mere $398 from July 28, 2018.

After releasing their Nova 2i last year, they have released its successor the Nova 3i along with its powerful sibling Huawei Nova 3. Let’s check in detail if this Nova 3i can be a ground breaking phone for Huawei and if they can face the fierce competition in the mid range smartphone market with this device.

Introduction to Huawei Nova Series

Well Huawei wanted to target the youth with this whole new Nova Series, and with the success of Nova 2i last year they have been able to learn what their customers wanted more out of their smartphones. With the help of love and feedback received, Huawei managed to refine few attributes they thought would attract the youth. This time with the release of Huawei Nova 3 Series, they have put more focus on

  • Affordability
  • Great Camera Performance
  • Gaming Performance
  • Lovely Aesthetics

Keeping in mind these things, they have definitely worked hard on these while trying to keep costs low and it looks that they have been successful in grabbing some attention to their consumers.

Huawei has launched two versions in International Market, the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i. Today we will be discussing every aspect including Display, Performance, Design, Camera, Battery Life, UI and much more. So lets go ahead and start our honest review of Huawei Nova 3i and help you decide if its the best choice for you to buy.

Design and Construction

The Design of Nova 3i is a lot different from its last year predecessor Nova 2i and gives a premium feel and look. It comes with 2.5D glass on front and back. The back frame is still metal but the glossy metallic finish helps it stands out and gives it a unique look.

With the 6.3 inches display using Notch design, it might look similar to P20 or Honor 10 but in actual its a bit wider too. It is understandable as it houses a huge 24MP + 2 MP front cameras, sensors and earpiece which takes a lot of space.

The hybrid nano-SIM tray is placed on left and metallic volume and power/lock buttons are placed on the right. On the top right is the placement for secondary microphone, while below you would see the 3.5 m audio port for listening to music or FM radio. Also you will find here loudspeakers and micro USB port. You would say what? USB port for charging and transferring data in Nova 3i. Oh yes, you read it right. Its a bit of disappointment for people who might have been expecting a USB Type C here.

With a lot of similarities in Design with Honor 10 and P20, this mobile phone comes with Irish Purple color which is actually a gradient of blue and purple. At the back of the Nova 3i, you would notice the protruding dual rear cameras, a powerful LED flash and circular fingerprint scanner. As expected for this mid range phone, its a smudge and fingerprint magnet.

Unfortunately, the Huawei Nova 3i also doesn’t come with any screen protectors pre-installed and also the fancy jelly case you might be watching here and there.

Overall the Nova 3i feels nice in hands as the front and back glass curves are too seamless to notice the edges. Though its a bit wider than Huawei Honor 10 but it has a solid grip and one can easily and comfortably hold it with one hand. But due to its bigger size, you still need to use both hands while navigating through apps or doing anything on it.

Display and Multimedia

Huawei Nova 3i features a 6.3 inches FullView and Full High Definition (FHD) Display. The notch design used in this phone helps it get a super 81% screen to body ratio and 19.5:9 aspect ratio which is indeed stunning and contribute to enhance the looks. With pixel resolution of 2340 * 1080 it equals 409ppi which is great for mid range phones.
